Queen Lucy Monologue

This is one of my favorite comedic monologues, and I thought I’d share the text for you here in case you’d like to use it!

This is my 1-minute cut from a scene between Lucy and Linus, from the musical “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown” (music and lyrics by Clark Gesner, based on the classic Peanuts characters created by Charles Schultz).

Linus, do you know what I intend?  I intend to be a queen.  When I grow up, I’m going to be the biggest queen there ever was, and I’ll live in a big palace, and when I go out in my coach, all the people will wave at me…  And in the summer —  What do you mean, I can’t be queen?  Nobody should be kept from being a queen if she wants to be one – it’s undemocratic!  Well… if I can’t be a queen, then I will be very rich – and then I will buy myself a queendom!  Yes, I will buy myself a queendom, and then I’ll throw out the old queen and take over the whole operation myself – I will be head queen!

I actually used this monologue for a German audition, too (translated by a dear friend – thank you!!)! I went a little slow with it in the video above, but the cuts I made to the script ended up being around 1-minute when I went at my usual pace 🙂 So, here’s “Königen Lucy” Monolog auf deutsch:

Linus, weißt Du, was ich werden möchte?  Ich möchte eine Königin werden.  Wenn ich groß bin, werde ich die größte Königin, die es jemals gab.  Und ich werde in einem großen Palast leben.  Und, wenn ich in meiner Kutsche hinausfahre, werden mir alle meine Untertanen zuwinken… Und im Sommer – – Was meinst Du damit, ich kann keine Königin sein?  Keine Frau sollte davon abgehalten werden, eine Königin zu werden, wenn sie das möchte – das ist so undemokratisch!  Nun gut, wenn ich keine Königin sein kann, dann werde ich eben sehr reich – und dann kaufe ich mir mein eigenes Königinnenreich!  Ja, ich werde mir mein eigenes Königinnenreich kaufen und dann werfe ich die alte Königin raus und übernehme den ganzen Betrieb selbst – ich werde die Oberkönigin.
